Tea Facts

There is nothing better than knowing that what you're putting in your body is good for you. With that in mind, we at Naja Tea took the liberty of putting together a list of tea facts for you to enjoy!



Blackberry Leaf- The leaves of blackberries have been used by people in North America and Europe for sore throat, diarrhea, mouth sores, wounds, and bleeding gums. They are also an effective diuretic.

Nutrition: The leaves mostly contain tannins, gallic acid and Iron.

Black Tea- Beverage of choice for millions of people around the world, black tea is also known for its health benefits. It has a stronger flavor and higher caffeine content than green tea and is therefore good for an energy boost in the morning or afternoon. Black tea also has antioxidants that strengthen the body’s immune systems and help fight viruses. Most people drink it black with either sugar or honey, though some prefer to drink it with milk. It is a common beverage in India where it is consumed with milk and plenty of spices, often called Chai. Overall, black tea is a healthy alternative to coffee because it contains the caffeine but does not cause the jitters and crash associated with coffee.

Calendula- Otherwise known as Marigold, Calendula is very common in gardens and yards across North America and Europe. It is not only a beautiful flower but also possesses medicinal benefits. It is mostly used for skin conditions such as abrasions, rashes, irritation, wounds, injuries, minor burns and eczema. When drunk as a tea, Calendula is known to reduce fever and detoxify the liver, gallbladder and kidneys.

Chamomile- Historically, chamomile has most commonly been used as a sleeping aid. However, there are many additional benefits of this flower. Chamomile is generally used for anything from stomach cramps, chest colds, inflammation and skin conditions (psoriasis, eczema, etc.), to bacterial infections and menstrual pains.

Nutrition: Chamomile is a good source of Vitamin B Complex, Vitamin C, Bioflavonoid and Choline.

Cinnamon- has been known to lower LDL cholesterol, helps people with type 2 diabetes with regulating blood sugar, inhibits the growth of bacteria in food, and boosts cognitive function and memory when smelt. When added with honey, it is also known to relieve arthritis pains.

Nutrition: Manganese, Iron, Fiber and Calcium.

Corn Flowers- Corn Flower is a garden plant common in Europe and N. America. It has brilliant blue colored flowers and grayish-green leaves. The plant contains flavanoids along with other healing agents that help fight infections such as yeast infection and urinary tract infection. Corn Flower is usually brewed into a tea to help with digestion and protecting the liver.

Echinacea- This is a wild flower commonly used in gardens for its bright purple flowers. It has also been popularized as a medicinal herb throughout the United States for its immune boosting qualities. It is thought to stimulate the white blood cell count, fighting infections and viruses that enter the body. It has also been used as a quick remedy for the common cold. Echinacea is generally consumed in a liquid extract form.

Fennel Seed- Since the time of ancient Egyptians, fennel seeds have been used medicinally. Though native to the Mediterranean, fennel seeds are used throughout the world for several ailments such as cramps, heartburn, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, congestion, and has been known to help with female hormonal imbalance which causes PMS, menopause and low libido. The seeds can be eaten raw but are generally brewed up into a tea.

Nutrition: Fennel seeds are low in sodium and very low in saturated fat and cholesterol. They are a good source of dietary fiber along with Calcium, Iron, Phosphorus and Magnesium.



Ginger Root- Ginger aids in digestion, alleviates high blood pressure, treats nausea and morning sickness and lowers LDL cholesterol. Due to its immune-boosting properties, ginger is also used to alleviate symptoms of cold and flu.

Ginseng- Originating in Asia, Ginseng is now one of the most widely used herbal medicines around the world. Ginseng is a root from a plant of the same name. In traditional Eastern medicine, Ginseng has been consumed for thousands of years for its benefits. These benefits include the reduction of stress, anxiety and fatigue in both men and women. Ginseng tea is known to increase mental clarity and alertness. It is also used in many beverages as an energy drink. Ginseng is most commonly used in a supplemental pill and powder form. It is important to buy Ginseng (any form) which is the least processed, as this may reduce its potency.

Green Rooibos- Similar to Red Rooibos (oxidized) in every other ways, Green Rooibos has 100 times the antioxidant content and has similar benefits as green tea. Green Rooibos has a very smooth, slightly fruity flavor and can be used for its anti-inflammatory properties, mostly derived from several types of flavanoids found in Rooibos. It is most effective in regulating the immune system and fighting free radicals that enter the blood stream. The Green Rooibos is caffeine free and extremely low in tannins which are common in black tea and Red Rooibos. It retains its stimulating effects for people who want to refrain from caffeine.

Nutrition: Green Rooibos, like Red Rooibos contains a host of minerals such as Calcium, Potassium and Zinc. The flavanoid contents are the most beneficial to health.
